Hi everyone,
Unfortunately, disk encryption support and the upcoming AnduinOS release based on Ubuntu 26.10 will be delayed due to some unexpected technical challenges.
What's happening?
Ubuntu 26.10 has removed Btrfs support from its signed GRUB bootloader. Since AnduinOS uses Btrfs by default and stores the kernel and initramfs on it to support system snapshots and recovery, directly adopting this change would make AnduinOS unbootable.
This also complicates our plans to introduce full-disk encryption.
Why is this difficult to fix?
We currently have two possible solutions:
Unfortunately, both approaches require considerable time, funding, and engineering effort. As a small, independently maintained open-source project, AnduinOS currently lacks the resources to commit to either solution immediately.
What's next?
I'm still evaluating our options. I don't have a release timeline yet, but I will do everything I can to resolve these challenges.
AnduinOS has hit a small roadblock, but I'm not giving up on either feature. Reliability and security will always come before release schedules.
Thank you for your patience and continued support!
