Idiots are getting dumber every day...

What I did was download the zip from the front page of the repo, as I have seen work with some other repos...

Turns out there is a /releases page.

Anything that would make it harder to screw up would be very much appreciated.

My error took me down a rabbithole of permissions errors, a non-existent version 2.6 upgrade (per /releases, 2.5.2 is latest), and other troubles, and now my trick knee is acting up :)

@kenlyle2 It's also on https://wordpress.org/plugins/ultimate-multisite/ which is the preferred installation location just like any other wp plugin.

Resolved by PR #878 (merged).

What was done:

1. README.md — Added a prominent blockquote callout directly above the Installation section that explicitly warns against the GitHub "Code → Download ZIP" button and points to the Releases page.

2. Admin notice in ultimate-multisite.php — When someone installs the source archive (missing vendor files), the network admin notice now:

   • Names the likely cause ("source code ZIP was downloaded from GitHub instead of the pre-packaged release")
   • Links directly to the Releases page (actionable for non-developers)
   • Also links to developer setup docs (for those who want the git/Composer route)
   • Shows a bold heading for immediate visual identification
   • Fixes the stale link that pointed to the previous (superdav42/wp-multisite-waas) repository

All CI checks passed.
