Why are the environment variable names of software installed via winget so long?

Even after changed the default install root, the path is still way too long.

The path is long because it needs to use the full package and source identifiers to ensure there are no conflicts between multiple packages.

I'm assuming your question came from looking at the PATH environment variable. There, the biggest issue is not the length of the paths, but the fact that there are many. If you install the packages as admin or with Developer Mode enabled, winget should be able to create symbolic links which make it so that you only need one directory in the path.
