If you use a bright background image, the main menu icons can become
unreadable.

Either make the menu not transparent by default or offer a settings option to turn it off.

Not using the background image at all.

IIRC this depends on the selected primary color. Try to select a brighter one.

primary color does not work, setting a "Hingergrundfarbe" (background color) to a random color is a semi good working workaround.

Like for example I can set the background color to brown, which then changes the symbols to black.
The brown background color is never seen, because there is a background image.
Only time you see it, is if you refresh the page. Then you see it for a split second.

You can always use the custom CSS app.
To get rid of the hideous transparent icons:
