Updog is an experimental UCI chess engine. You can interact with it via UCI compatible GUIs like En Croissant. It can play both standard chess as well as Chess960.
These are the UCI options the engine currently supports:
| Option | Type | Default Value | Valid Values | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hash | spin | 16 | [1, 65536] | Size of the transposition table in MiB |
| Clear Hash | button | - | - | Clear the transposition table |
| Threads | spin | 1 | [1, 1] | Number of threads to use for search |
| UCI_Chess960 | check | false | false, true | Whether the Chess960 variant is being played |
Currently there are no prebuilt binaries. You can build the project yourself using the make native, which produces a pgo optimised build for the current host architecture.
Make, Rust (with llvm-tools-preview extension), and cargo-pgo are required to build this project.
All patches that affect the engine's gameplay are tested using Sequential Probability Ratio Tests to ensure the intended change in engine strength before they ever get merged to master. Currently, OpenBench is used to distribute test workloads across multiple machines.
Historical SPRT results can be found here.
