Steam Machine unable to log into a different Linux user

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Launch in Desktop mode is turned on.
When I am in desktop mode, I cannot log out and log in as a different user. It just logs straight back in as "deck"
If i turn off auto login in the config (relogin=false), when it logs out, you just get a black screen (and you have to reboot)
if i change the username in the config from deck to another user, on reboot i get the login screen, but only the deck user works. It won't let me log in as another user.

The aim is to have another user on the Steam Machine I can login to with it's own home directory.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

1. create a new linux user
2. log out of linux user deck
3. you are unable to log in as a different user

I have the exact same problem. SteamOS has zero security so nothing prevents anyone from walking up to your pc and accessing your files.

Where did you find the config where auto login is located?

It's in etc/sddm.conf.d
There are multiple layers - seems to be:
kde_settings.conf is the options you select in the KDE settings
steamos.conf is SteamOS's configuration
z-holo-autologin.conf is SteamOS's high priority override

I've messed around with these to understand what's going on, but I don't think it's the right way or that it will solve the problem. There is another lock happening elsewhere which doesn't let another Linux created user log in (both at desktop and at TTY - but you can log in in Terminal). HOWEVER - lock screen did work so if you are just looking for security and one user, locking and logging in with the deck user was working (not sure if by default or if i changed something).

Luckily, I'm the only user so I've resorted to just using the deck user for everything including the /home location. Seems to be more "proper" than keeping deck for the OS and my own user for myself which I first thought would be good.

I had read one way around it is to use lock screen. There is a program that immediately puts the OS into lock screen and it was recommended that if you can find the start script you can include that command in it. Theory is as STeamOS loads up it will run startup script and it will include that command and immediately put it into locked screen. Its a long way around but it may work.

I just cant find that startup script. Most of the information I find, steamos linux is missing those files or folders.

Another weird issue with SteamOS linux is lack of a good file manager program. It has dolphin but it sucks.
