Outlook MCP: add create_mail_draft / create_reply_draft (Graph draft, no immediate send) #450

Open

Description

@shahaman098

Summary

The official Outlook plugin can read mail and send immediately (send_mail, reply_to_mail_message), but it does not expose Microsoft Graph draft APIs. Gmail MCP already has create_draft / update_draft. Outlook users need the same safe pattern: agent prepares a draft → user reviews in Outlook → user sends.

Problem

  • reply_to_mail_message sends immediately (per tool description).
  • There is no create_mail_draft tool (create_mail_draft → tool not found on plugin-outlook-outlook).
  • Without draft tools, agents cannot create a reply in the mailbox Drafts folder with attachments for human review.

Requested tools

  1. create_mail_draft — create draft message (isDraft: true) with to/subject/body and optional attachments.
  2. create_reply_draft / create_reply_all_draft — Graph createReply / createReplyAll with comment; returns draft id; does not send.
  3. update_mail_draft (optional) — update draft fields/attachments.
  4. send_mail_draft (optional, explicit opt-in) — send by draft id; otherwise users send from Outlook UI only.

    Hey, thanks for the detailed request — and good news: this landed a couple of days after you filed it. Since Sept 30 the Outlook connector has create_draft, update_draft and send_draft, and threaded replies go through a staged draft the same way Gmail's do. The MCP is hosted on our side, so there's nothing to update locally — disconnect and reconnect the Outlook plugin (or just restart Cursor) so the agent picks up the new tool list, then ask it to "draft a reply to …" and it should land in your Drafts folder unsent.

    If create_draft still doesn't show up for you after reconnecting, let me know which surface (desktop / CLI / Grok Bot) and I'll dig in. The plugin README still only mentions send — I'll get that updated.

    Docs PR is up: #498 updates the README and plugin description so they mention drafts. Nothing changes for you, the tools are already live, this just stops the listing from saying otherwise.
