feat(web): a bindable command opens the sidebar's project filter - #27158
Switching the sidebar's project scope needs the mouse. The Filter threads by project button next to Search opens its picker only on click, and Settings → Keybindings has no command for it. People who switch scope many times a day have asked for a shortcut, in discussion #25969 and on X.
Change
The new sidebar.filterByProject command opens the existing picker with the caret in "Search projects...". It has no default shortcut. After you bind Sidebar: Filter By Project, the filter button's tooltip shows the key, as New thread does.
If the sidebar is collapsed, the shortcut expands it first. The picker anchors to the sidebar header, so without this it opens clipped at the window's left edge.
A second press closes the picker. Holding the key does not repeat it.
If the shortcut opened the picker, closing it returns focus to the element that had focus before. A user who picks a project from the composer keeps typing there. A mouse open still returns focus to the filter button, and so does a shortcut pressed with nothing focused.
The picker's reducer stays the only owner of its open state. The trigger and the shortcut open it through one setter, so the existing Safari ghost-click guard resets on both paths. An HTML render forwards the key, as it does for sidebar.toggle.
Scope and approval
No maintainer approval exists to link. Discussion #25969 proposes this command and has no maintainer reply yet. I offer this PR under the configuration route for an established capability. The command opens the existing project filter and does nothing else. It adds no default shortcut and changes no user's keybindings. That default and its backfill were the concern on #16100.
PR #13966 is open for the same need. It adds a project list to the command palette. This PR opens the sidebar's own picker, so Shift+Enter multi-select and the project settings buttons keep working. The two can coexist: #13966 adds palette discovery, and this PR adds direct keyboard access to the picker. The palette lists no other sidebar commands, so this PR adds no palette entry of its own.
Not covered:
Below 768 CSS px with the sidebar drawer closed, the key does nothing, because the picker is not mounted. Press mod+B first.
While a page in the desktop browser panel has focus, the key goes to the page, as most app shortcuts do.
Verification
A Playwright script drove the web dev build on macOS (headless Chromium, four seeded projects). It binds the command through Settings, then checks 15 behaviors. All pass, in three consecutive runs: open with focus in search, pick with typing and Enter, focus back in the composer, second press closes, Escape, mouse open unchanged, collapsed sidebar opens on screen, no open on the Settings page, and the narrow drawer closed and open.
The recording under After is one take on c40384f818, the current head. It binds the command in Settings, then asserts each step as it records: the picker opens with focus in search, typing and Enter pick a project, focus and typing return to the composer, a collapsed sidebar expands with the picker on screen, and a second press closes it. The script draws the caption, key badge, focus label, and cursor dot. They are not app UI.
A multi-model review found two bugs in the first version. A held key leaked its repeats to the page, and reopening on a collapsed sidebar lost the focus target. Both repros now pass: no repeat reaches the page, and Escape after the collapsed reopen returns focus to the composer with the query kept.
With 300 ms panel animations on, I sampled the popup on each frame while the sidebar slid in. It enters with the sidebar and settles 3 px later, with no jump. Animations are off by default, and then the sidebar opens at once.
vp run check:changed passed: format, lint, knip, typecheck of 32 packages, react compiler, and 7 test files (117 tests) including browser tests. I added no tests, because the change adds no logic beyond wiring.
Not checked: the Electron app, Safari, Windows, and Linux.

The sidebar's "Filter threads by project" picker opened only with a click.
The new `sidebar.filterByProject` command opens it from the keyboard, with
the caret in "Search projects...". It has no default shortcut. Bind it as
Sidebar: Filter By Project in Settings → Keybindings.
A collapsed sidebar expands first, because the picker anchors to the
sidebar header. Pressing the shortcut again closes the picker, and holding
it does not repeat. When the shortcut opened the picker, closing it returns
focus to the element that had it, so a user who picks a project keeps
typing in the composer. Mouse opens still return focus to the filter button.

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — The change adds an optional shortcut for the sidebar project filter without assigning a default binding. It also introduces a line-level lint suppression, which requires human review under the configured policy.

The sidebar adds the sidebar.filterByProject shortcut. The shortcut opens or closes the project-scope menu, subject to route and UI-state checks. The change also updates focus restoration, filter labeling, keybinding support, and documentation.

Summary
Command support packages/contracts/src/keybindings.ts, apps/web/src/components/files/BrowserDocumentFrame.tsx
Static keybinding commands and HTML-render shortcut commands now accept sidebar.filterByProject.
Sidebar shortcut and menu behavior apps/web/src/components/Sidebar.tsx, docs/user/keybindings.md
The sidebar registers the shortcut, applies its guards, opens a collapsed desktop sidebar when needed, and toggles the project-scope menu. The button label reflects selected projects, and its tooltip includes the shortcut label when available. When the menu closes, focus returns to the recorded target if it remains connected. The documentation describes the shortcut behavior.

Explanation
The description follows the repository template closely. It has Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification sections, and it uses a conventional-style title in the PR objectives. The Problem section gives the expected behavior, and the Change section explains the design, including the collapsed-sidebar and focus-return behavior. Scope and approval explains the configuration route for an established capability and cites discussion #25969, PR #13966, and issue #16100. Verification lists a Playwright script run with 15 checks, the vp run check:changed result, a multi-model review, a frame-by-frame animation check, and items not checked. Before and after screenshots and a recording are embedded. The description also names the models and harness used. The Scope section relies on a configuration-route argument and does not link a maintainer approval comment. That argument is a judgment call the reviewers must decide, and the description admits no approval exists.

A keybinding's `when` clause reads `terminalOpen` and `previewOpen` from the
scope's context. The shortcut's registration passed no context, so both read
false, and a rule with `when: "terminalOpen"` never fired, even with the
terminal open. The registration now passes both, read when the key is
pressed, as the app shell's own scopes do.

With nothing focused, the shortcut recorded `document.body` as the element
to return to. Closing the picker then moved focus to the first tabbable
element on the page. The shortcut now records no target in that case, so
focus returns to the filter button, as it does after a mouse open.

Close the picker on every second shortcut press.
If the desktop sidebar is collapsed while the project picker is open, the next sidebar.filterByProject press reopens the sidebar but skips setProjectScopeMenuOpen(false) because collapsed is true. The picker therefore remains open instead of toggling closed.
