Reserve the rendered XL radius before mapping the swing.

XL mode reserves three pixels, but particle size 120 renders to a radius of approximately 4.8 pixels. On a 20-pixel segment, the leftmost mapped center is 5; the calculated amplitude is 2, so the particle reaches center 3 and its left side is clipped. On segments of 4–8 pixels, the same clearance calculation leaves zero amplitude for every mapped center. Use a clearance derived from the rendered size. If the segment cannot fit that clearance and a nonzero swing, use the static fallback or a smaller particle. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Review comment at @usermods/user_fx/user_fx.cpp around lines 1660 - 1661:
Update the sizePx and cutoff clearance calculation so it reserves the rendered
particle radius in XL mode, approximately 4.8 pixels, rather than three pixels;
preserve appropriate clearance for other modes. When the segment cannot fit that
clearance with a nonzero swing, use the static fallback or a smaller particle
instead of mapping a clipped swing.

Prevent zero-amplitude motion on short segments.

For SEGLEN values from 2 through 9, cutoff is zero. The mapping can therefore select an endpoint. For SEGLEN == 2, every mapped offset produces zero amplitude, so the Pendulum remains stationary. The initializer rejects only one-pixel segments, so this path is reachable. Reject segments shorter than three pixels and keep the offset inside a non-zero interior range. Update the Pendulum initialization path that assigns pd->offsetX: reject
segments shorter than three pixels, and constrain the mapped offset to an
interior range that guarantees non-zero motion. Preserve the existing mapping
behavior for valid longer segments.

Prevent zero-amplitude motion on short segments.

Even a strip that is 3 pixels long will have no animation, so I set it to 4 or more pixels. So SEGLEN < 4 will fall back to the solid/static FX.

@BobLoeffler68 The supplied code confirms that SEGLEN < 4 now falls back to the static effect before particle-system initialization.

The endpoint case remains for lengths 4–9 because cutoff is still zero. For example, with SEGLEN == 4 and intensity 255, offsetX becomes 3 and the amplitude becomes zero. Keeping the offset inside 1..segLen-2 would address the remaining part of this finding.

## Opening Issues & Feature Requests

Whether you're reporting a bug or suggesting a new feature, please lead with **what you want to achieve or what's bothering you, in plain language** - not with a specific code path, root cause, or proposed source change. For example, "the LEDs flicker when I use transition X at low brightness" or "I'd like to control WLED without needing an app" tells us what matters, before any technical detail.

Maintainers are usually in a better position to map your objective onto a good technical solution and weigh the trade-offs (memory, performance, maintainability). If you already have a technical idea or a fix in mind, that's welcome too - just add it as additional context after describing the underlying goal, so we understand *why* before we evaluate *how*.

@BobLoeffler68 I meant to keep the center of the swing off the first and last pixels. The moving LED can still reach those pixels.

For a four-pixel segment, the pixel indexes are 0, 1, 2, 3:

  • If the center is 0 or 3, your amplitude calculation gives zero.
  • If the center is 1 or 2, the pendulum has room to swing.

The smallest change is to make cutoff at least 1. Replace:

uint16_t cutoff = segLen / 10;

with:

uint16_t cutoff = (segLen < 10) ? 1 : segLen / 10;

Keep your SEGLEN < 4 fallback and both offsetX assignments unchanged.

For lengths 4–9, this change excludes the first and last pixels from the possible center positions. It applies to both the slider and random selection. For lengths 10 and above, it preserves the existing behavior.
